Nayel Nassar shines at the Longines Masters of New York
The third leg of the Longines Masters series, of which Longines is the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper, started off on Friday with the much-anticipated Longines Speed Challenge, in which the riders have to achieve the quickest time, knowing that a fault only leads to a two-second penalty instead of the usual four. This intense event was claimed by Nayel Nassar riding Lucifer V, in front of Kristen Vanderveen on Bull Run's Faustino de Tili and Olivier Philippaerts on Insolente Des Dix Bonniers.
On that evening, the brand had the pleasure to welcome its Friends of the Brand, French model Ilonat Smet, Canadian producer Alen Palander and Taiwanese actor and singer Marcus Chang, who had already joined Longines during the previous legs of this indoor series in Paris and Hong Kong, thus marking the conclusion of an exceptional journey across the continents.
On Saturday, Longines was proud to support as its Founding Partner the Riders Masters Cup, an innovative show-jumping competition that pits the two major equestrian powers, the United States and Europe, against each other in a transatlantic battle. Team Europe, made up of : Pius Schwizer, Edward Levy, Olivier Philippaerts, Darragh Kenny and Harrie Smolders, took the limelight once again following their victory last December, in Paris.
Finally, Sunday afternoon brought to the Longines Masters of New York a thrilling conclusion with a new remarkable victory of Nayel Nassar, his second of the weekend, in the coveted Longines Grand Prix, the final highlight of the weekend. Harrie Smodlers (NED) on Une de l'Othain secured second place, while Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) on H&M Cue Channa 42 took the third place. To celebrate his great achievement, the Egyptian rider was rewarded with the event’s iconic trophy, as well as an elegant Longines timepiece from the hands of Matthieu Baumgartner, Longines Vice President Marketing.
