The Longines Speed Challenge: The world’s fastest trial claimed by German rider Philipp Weishaupt

The second day of the Longines Masters of Hong Kong was marked by the much-anticipated Longines Speed Challenge, known as the world’s fastest trial. The challenge for the riders of this competition is to achieve the fastest time, knowing that a fault only leads to a two second penalty, instead of the usual four. This rule pushes the riders to give their best and to run the course as fast as they can, creating a high-level of suspense. The Longines Speed Challenge requires mastering timing and precision, values dear to Longines.

Following a fierce competition, Germany’s Philipp Weishaupt on Chacon claimed the victory, in front of Patrice Delaveau (FRA) and Kevin Staut (FRA). The winner was rewarded with a Longines timepiece from the hands of Mr. Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President and Head of International Marketing of Longines and Mrs Karen Au Yeung, Vice President of Longines Hong Kong. As the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of the entire Longines Masters series, the Swiss watch brand is looking forward to the other highlight of this world-class event, the Longines Grand Prix, taking place on Sunday February 11, 2018.

This year, in collaboration with EEM, Longines chose to lend its support to autism awareness across the three continents and presented a cheque worth 200’000 HKD to Sole Beneficiary Charity Partner Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs), a local non-governmental organization which has been a force for good in Hong Kong for over a century, to benefit autistic children.

The Longines Masters of Hong Kong is the second event of the series, which started last December in Paris and will end in New York on April 26-29, 2018. The Official Watch of the Longines Masters of Hong Kong is a lady model from the brand’s latest line, the Record collection. Combining classic elegance and excellence, all pieces in this collection are certified as “chronometers” by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Longines’ passion for equestrian sport dates back to 1878, when it produced a chronograph engraved with a jockey and his mount. Three years later, it can be found on American racecourses, adopted by horse enthusiasts. In 1912, the company partnered for the first time with an international show jumping competition. Today Longines’ involvement in equestrian sports includes show-jumping, flat racing, endurance, driving, dressage and eventing competitions.
