Conquest V.H.P. Chronograph

SCROLL TO EXPLORE

The Conquest V.H.P. by Longines offers new sporty models

The Conquest V.H.P. represents a new achievement in the field of quartz, combining great precision, high technicality and a sporty look, marked by the brand’s unique elegance. In the true essence of Conquest – the ultimate sports line – the brand now proposes chronographs that bring together all of the qualities of the Conquest V.H.P. movement.

Longines’ history with quartz has been one full of technical innovations and feats. In 1954, the first quartz watch set a precision record at the Neuchâtel Observatory. It would be fitted into the legendary Chronocinégines, an instrument that became a pioneer in the history of timekeeping, as it provided judges with a film strip composed of a series of prints, allowing them to follow the athletes’ movement as they crossed the finish line. In 1969, technological mastery led Longines to reveal the Ultra-Quartz, the first quartz movement designed for wristwatches. A huge stride was made in 1984 with the quartz calibre fitted in the first Conquest V.H.P., setting a precision record for that time.

As an extension of these historic milestones, the winged hourglass brand presents its new Conquest V.H.P., now also available with a chronograph calibre in various chromatic variations. The movement developed exclusively for Longines stands out for its high degree of precision for an analog watch (±5 s/yr) and its ability to reset its hands after an impact or exposure to a magnetic field, using the GPD (Gear Position Detection) system. These attractive features are likely responsible for its status as an exceptional movement, to which a very long battery life and a perpetual calendar must be added.

These steel or black PVD models are available in two sizes (42 and 44 mm in diameter) and display hours, minutes and seconds, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock and a 60-second counter in the centre. On each model, manipulations are simplified thanks to the intelligent crown, while two distinct indicators preventively signal the end of battery life. Conquest V.H.P. chronographs boast blue, carbon fibre, silvered or black dials. A steel, or blue or black rubber watch strap completes these exceptional timepieces.

The Longines Master Collection is inviting colour onto its dials

As a traditional watchmaking company, Longines has been producing exceptional timepieces since the very beginning. The Longines Master Collection is the perfect contemporary illustration of this concept, as demonstrated by the success of this collection since its launch in 2005. The Longines Master Collection blends classic elegance and excellence, for the greatest pleasure of watchmaking enthusiasts. Today, Longines is presenting new pieces in which coloured dials take center stage. These gray and blue models add a new variation to the rich array of models offered in The Longines Master Collection.

In 2005, Longines launched the line that would become its best-selling product: The Longines Master Collection. Right from the start, this range has enjoyed a level of success that has never waned, making it an emblem of the brand's watchmaking know-how. Over the years, new sizes and sophistications have been added, while the timeless classicism which is the brand's essential characteristic and which has played a major role in its success worldwide has always been maintained.

This year, Longines is launching two editions: one in gray and the other in blue. These fashionable chromatic variations are perfectly in line with the classic and understated spirit of this collection. The sunray blue or sunray gray dial shows the hours, minutes and seconds thanks to rhodium-plated hands that stand out subtly. The gray models, as well as the men’s blue model, are available with an alligator watch strap of the same colour as the dial for total harmony.

These models of the Longines Master Collection come in several diameters, so that men and women can find the watch best suited to their wrist. The clear underside of the steel case allows one to admire the scintillating movement of the automatic calibres with which these pieces are fitted. These elegant timepieces are complimented by a steel bracelet or gray or blue alligator watch strap, all fitted with a folding safety clasp.

1954 - CHRONOCINÉGINES - ABSOLUTE PRECISION IN SPORTS TIMING

The Chronocinégines marks a decisive moment in the history of sports timing. In 1954, it sets impressive records for precision at the Neuchâtel Observatory where it runs for 24 hours with absolute precision. A world first for a portable timing device! This instrument consists of a 16mm camera coupled with a quartz clock developed by Longines. It provides sports officials with a series of still images taken every hundredth of a second, allowing them to follow the athletes’ movements as they pass the finishing line.

1969 - LONGINES ULTRA-QUARTZ - THE FIRST ELECTRONIC WRISTWATCH

On 20 August 1969, Longines proudly presents its movement 6512, developed entirely in-house. It is intended to be used in the first quartz wristwatch: Longines Ultra-Quartz. This causes a sensation, enjoying the prestige associated with its modernity. Available in silver or gold, the models are characterised by the position of the winding stem on the back of the watch. The mercury battery is also accessible from the back of the watch, allowing it to be easily replaced. With a radically different design and operation compared to the mechanical watch, the electronic watch requires significant changes to the production method.

1984 - CONQUEST V.H.P. - THE BATTLE FOR PRECISION

A giant step towards mastering quartz technology is achieved in 1984 with the launch of Conquest V.H.P. (Very High Precision), with its calibre, the Longines quartz 276V.H.P, achieving a new record for precision. The movement has a tolerance of ± 1 minute every 5 years, making the watch 5 to 10 times more accurate than a classic quartz watch. Cleverly designed circuits in the movement essentially neutralise the danger posed by the enemy of quartz watches: variations in temperature. The V.H.P. model is the star of the Conquest collection and combines three noble materials: gold, titanium, and steel.

1996 - CONQUEST V.H.P. PERPETUAL CALENDAR - TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES JOIN FORCES

After the thermocompensated quartz movement used in Conquest V.H.P in 1984, and the electronic perpetual calendar used in Conquest Perpetual Calendar in 1990, Longines unites the two technologies in the perfect model: Conquest V.H.P. Perpetual Calendar, launched in 1996. This watch stands out for its ultra-precise 546 calibre and is designed for those keen to show off its animated character, energy, and elegance. With this watch, Longines is able to confidently reaffirm its watchmaking expertise in quartz technology. Conquest V.H.P Perpetual Calendar continues to make the brand proud to this day.

2017 - BACK TO THE FUTURE OF QUARTZ

Today, the new Conquest V.H.P. represents the ultimate step in the quartz precision worn on the wrist. It is equipped with a movement developed by the ETA manufacturing company exclusively for Longines. This movement is renowned for its high degree of precision for an analog watch (± 5 s/yr) and its ability to reset its hands after an impact or exposure to a magnetic field, using the GPD (gear position detection) system. These attractive features are likely responsible for its exceptional movement status, to which a very long battery life and a perpetual calendar must be added.

MAIN FEATURES

ULTRAPRECISION OF ± 5 SECONDS PER YEAR
The watch ensures the display of hours, minutes and seconds to an accuracy of ± 5 sec / year. This extreme accuracy is achieved through an ultra-precise quartz combined with time display correction in the event of a disturbance.

GPD SYSTEM
The GPD system (Gear Position Detection ) is the watch’s key device. It allows to automatically reset the hands after a shock or exposure to a magnetic field, either immediately, or at 3am if the problem isn’t resolved right away. The GPD system also includes automatic correction at 3am every three days to ensure the precision.

MAGNETISM
Sensors detect the presence of magnetic fields. Above a certain threshold, the display freezes, although the time is still being counted. As soon as the watch moves away from the magnetic fields, the display immediately corrects itself.

SHOCK
In case of a shock up to 500G, the display is immediately corrected. In the event of stronger shock, the correction occurs automatically thanks to the GPD system.

PERPETUAL CALENDAR
The watch is equipped with a perpetual calendar that no longer requires correcting the date. The calibre does not allow one to move the time forward or backward more than one day, in order to avoid disrupting the perpetual calendar.

LONG-LIFE BATTERY
The battery lasts more than 4 years and the watch signals the end of battery life by making one of its hands jump every five seconds. If the battery is not replaced during the E.O.L. ( end of life ) phase, the system goes into E.O.E (end of energy) mode by setting the watch hands to 12 o’clock. You have then 6 months to change the battery.

SMART CROWN
The smart crown allows to set the time minute by minute or hour by hour (quick setting), by turning the crown either slowly or vigorously. When changing the time (in summer/winter, for example), the movement automatically repositions the second and minute hands to the exact position of the previous time, therefore ensuring extra precision.

RESYNCHRONISATION
THE WATCH IS DELIVERED IN ‘ENERGY-SAVING’ MODE
The crown is extended, the hands are at twelve o’clock. Once the crown has been pushed in, the watch automatically changes to the Swiss time and date. It must then be set to the local time. If the user extends the crown once again, the hands return to twelve o’clock and the watch goes back into ‘energy-saving’ mode after one minute. Once the crown has been pushed in, the watch automatically changes to the local time.

ADJUSTING THE TIME
Pull the crown out to position 2. Adjust the hands by turning the crown in either direction. The time can be set minute by minute or hour by hour (quick setting ), by turning the crown either slowly or vigorously. Push the crown back in to position 1. The perpetual calendar no longer requires correcting the date.

RESYNCHRO-
NISATION
If the battery is exhausted ( or removed from the movement more than one day ), the watch needs to be totally resynchronised (reprogrammed). All the functions are affected. If the battery is removed from the movement less than one day, only the hour needs to be resynchronised.
Only approved service centres are authorised to change the battery and synchronise Conquest V.H.P. watches.

This year, Longines is celebrating its 185th anniversary, and is taking the opportunity to present its new Record collection. In the Saint-Imier company’s purest watchmaking tradition, these automatic models combine classic elegance and excellence, aspiring to become the spearheads of the brand. And there is no shortage of arguments for these exceptional timepieces, whose movement includes a single-crystal silicon balance spring with unique properties. A first for Longines, it is certified as a “chronometer” by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), a designation awarded to all of the pieces in the Record collection.

It seems the destiny of some timepieces has already been mapped out. Through its new Record collection, Longines conveys its essence; one of timeless elegance and excellence. Qualities that are sure to raise these models to the rank of future success of the brand, as a link between tradition and innovation. A decidedly classic collection, which is expressive and emblematic of Longines’ watchmaking expertise.

Behind this ambitious profile, is an exceptional heart. This heart is the balance spring, the watch’s regulating organ. Coupled to the balance, it oscillates around its equilibrium position, ensuring its fundamental purpose: to beat with extreme regularity. Yet, between magnetism, temperature variations and wear and tear (many hundreds of millions of “breaths” per year), everything seems to be working against its smooth operation. For increased accuracy and longevity, Longines decided to add single-crystal silicon balance spirals to its best movements – a resistant and light material that is inoxidizable and unaffected by standard temperature variations, magnetic fields and atmospheric pressure. A high-tech heart housed in a timepiece created in the purest watchmaking tradition!

Such excellence deserves recognition. Based on their high accuracy, all of the Record collection’s models have received the COSC’s “chronometer” certificate. Equipped with automatic calibres, all of the pieces were tested one by one by this neutral independent organization, and can thus display the CHRONOMETER label stamped on their dial. Bestowed with significant added value, these certified “chronometers” achieve the status of authentic, exceptional timepieces.

With four sizes (26, 30, 38.5 and 40 mm), the Record collection is designed for both women (7 dials) and men (6 dials). All of the models feature the 3 working hands/date version, with a steel case – and a diamond-set steel case on two dials, for women – fitted on a steel bracelet or alligator watch strap.
